Day
2: Arrive in Salta airport and
transfer to Hotel Solar de la
Plaza in Salta downtown for two
nights. The rest of the day will be spent
exploring the trails and birding cloudforest
habitat at Reserva del Huaico where we
hope to find several specialties such
as Cream-backed Woodpecker and we plan
to await the night and look for local
owls and nightjars. Box lunch.
Day
3: Breakfast. Morning short drive
into the Chaco habitat in the Mojotoro
valley and visit a private ranch for a
great introduction to typical wildfowl.
Later in the day we will explore the dry
thorny woodland in search of various species
such as Chaco Earthcreeper, Black-legged
Seriema, Brushland Tinamou and the bizarre
Chaco Puffbird. Box lunch.
Day
4: Breakfast. This morning we
will explore the ancient road between
Salta and Jujuy to enjoy the cloudforest,
carpeting the slopes of Santa Laura mountain
pass. In the afternoon we drive on towards
Jujuy province and the Yala river to look
for some attractions such as Rufous-throated
Dipper and Torrent Duck. Overnight in
Yala at Hosteria La Casona del
Camino Real. Lunch and dinner
included.
Day
5: Breakfast. Morning devoted
to the cloudforest around Yala and for
driving back to Salta. Transfer to airport
in time for afternoon flight to Buenos
Aires.
